(Important note: I'm posting this just to give a comparison, *NOT* to start some kind of flame ware so please keep this civil) Dealer very close to work has a 1994 six speed Supra on the lot so I figured what the hell. Exterior and paint on this car (red) were in excellent condition, no dings or scratches anyhwere. Interior wise, the leather on my 1991 Z is in much better shape than the leather on this particular Supra, which looks cracked and weather worn. Also, I prefer the ergonomics and control layout on the Z to the Supra. Everything just falls so easily to hand and the Z's interior is more artful looking than the Supra, which isn't bad but just seems bland in comparison. As for the drive, this car was bone stock and pulled nearly as hard as my stage III...gotta admit I was impressed. Also, the brakes felt a lot stronger. Handing-wise it felt like a Lexus with a stiff suspension. Steering felt somewhat numb and isolated. The Z has a racier feel to it. In terms of rigidity and noise, I hate to say, but the Supra felt more solid and even with 74,000 miles, was amazingly quiet. Part of that comment comes from the fact that I have a B&B exhaust which resonates between 2 and 3 thousand rpm. However, the overall impression I came away with was that there are incredible similarities between these two cars. The whole time I was driving the Supra I was saying to myself "It feels so similar to my Z - just a slightly more sterile execution of the same car...would it be worth it to trade?" Part of that may have been due to the fact that this car was wearing the exact same rubber (Yoko AVS Sports) as my car with about as much treadwear. Still, anyone who tells you Toyota didn't look long and hard at the Z when designing the Supra is full of it. So then, am I gonna trade? I don't know yet. The dealer offered me reasonable cash for my Z ($13K) so I am somewhat tempted. I'm looking at this as a cheap way to experience another Japanese supercar until BMW gets their act togethor and starts shipping E46 M3s. Anyways, gotta run to the dentist, I'll think it over while I'm under the NOS and let you all know :-)
